R&D in e-Governance

e-Governance in India has steadily evolved from computerization of Government Departments to initiatives that encapsulate the finer points of Governance, such as citizen centricity, service orientation and transparency. The Digital India programme of the Government Of India is centered on 3 key areas, namely Digital Infrastructure as a utility to every citizen, governance and services on demand and digital empowerment of citizens. The National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) takes a holistic view of e-Governance initiatives across the country, integrating them into a collective vision and a shared cause. Around this idea, a massive countrywide infrastructure reaching down to the remotest of villages is evolving and large-scale digitization of records is taking place to enable easy, reliable access over the internet. The ultimate objective is to bring public services closer home to citizens, as articulated in the Vision Statement of NeGP.

Department actively supports Research and Development in the area of e-Governance , some of the thrust areas could be Cloud computing, Biometric solution in e-Governance, Security & Cryptography, Mobile computing, Big data analytics etc. Proposals are invited in the aforesaid areas from time to time from various academic & R&D organisations for support and funding by DeitY. Proposals are required to be submitted in the prescribed format available at http://www.meity.gov.in/content/schemes-and-policies under ”R&D funding Scheme”

Projects get priority for financial support based on the area and relevance to the user organization, replicability of the product envisaged in the project in the states, ability to leverage the already created e-Gov infrastructure across the country. Funds are provided for capital equipment, software, manpower recruited specifically for the project and reasonable institute overheads, consumables, travel and contingencies.
